Christian Warrior

The battle cry of the Triarii, Stete, "Stand firm!" was adopted by the Apostle Paul to encourage Christians to steadfast devotion to the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a cry that needs repeating today.

Every one of us lives in a war zone. All around us an invisible war rages: the angelic conflict, the struggle between truth and lies, between right and wrong, between the Lord Jesus Christ and the fallen realm. The moment we place our trust in Christ and receive eternal salvation, we enter not only the Royal Family of God, but also the royal army of God; we become a combatant in this battle of the ages.

This newly republished book is transcribed from a 31-audio-lesson series which Gene taught called "Christian Warrior Special." This book is a study of Christian combat—a manual for the soldier of faith. In it, we will follow the Apostle Paul's development of Christian warfare through the use of military terminology in his letters.

If you print the PDF from the website, please note that Christian Warrior is formatted for a 5 ½ x 8 ½ book, and you will be able to print it as a "booklet." If you would like a hard copy of this book, it may be ordered through books@basictraining.org.

Expanding Ministry Through Missions

As described in the Book of Acts and expanding on Bruce Wilkinson's book, The Prayer of Jabez, Gene addresses how missions can expand ministry.

After an extensive study of the book, a Baptist pastor who was the featured speaker at a prominent theological seminary came to Gene’s attention when he declared that he had become aware in his ministry that something was missing. He organized a large number of leaders in his church to gather once a week to study the Book of Acts, seeking the answer in the early Church. After four months, they concluded that it was the missionary zeal of the early Church that was missing.

We should all entertain the possibility that God may want us to expand our ministry dramatically by extending a helping hand to those crying out for it. It may prove one of the most important decisions of our ministry.

Hidden Manna

The Lord promises "hidden manna" to those that overcome in Rev 2:17. It is significant that the children of Israel went through 40 years of wandering, and every day they went out to get what God and Moses called “bread from heaven” — manna (Exo 16:4, Exo 16:14–27). God had told the people that manna was both a provision and a test. We can learn many lessons from God's faithfulness, Israel's failure, and Jesus Christ Himself — "The Bread of Life."

In the Way of Discipleship
This is a newly edited version of a five-year-old study on discipleship.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand - Eph 6:10–13

Jonah

If you are a Christian who does not joyfully seek out opportunities to share Christ with a dark and dying world, then this study is for you. It will help you understand why all Christians must be committed to personal evangelism.

Poetry, Quotes, and Stories

Gene and Nan have selected their favorite poems—some by themselves and some by well-known and not-so-well-known poets, as well as quotes, included in this section.

Prayer of Jabez

Long ago an unknown man uttered an obscure prayer. God recorded that prayer to be an encouragement to each and every seemingly insignificant and unknown believer who has the boldness to pray and trust Him for great things.

Psalm 119
Psalm 119 is the longest prayer in the Bible. It is a prayer with one theme: the all-sufficiency of the Word of God. Scripture does not tell us who wrote this psalm, but many scholars believe that it was written by one of the young people taken from Jerusalem in the Babylonian exile. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah, Ezekiel, Ezra, and Esther all have been suggested as possible authors. This study of Psalm 119 is based on the assumption that the author was one of the captives taken in Nebuchadnezzar’s third and last deportation of the Jews to Babylon.

In the recorded series from which this book was drawn, there is a great deal of detailed exegesis from the study of the Hebrew text of Psalm 119. For the sake of brevity, most of that detail is not included here. Scriptures that are directly or indirectly quoted in the running text of this volume are cited in endnotes. In many cases, the endnotes include references that are not quoted in the text but are useful for additional study.

Rivers of Living Water

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (Joh 7:37-39)

These words of Jesus make clear that the source of spiritual power is the Holy Spirit of God. Spiritual power is of God, not of man. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (Joh 3:6).  This book is a comprehensive study on biblical spirituality.

Spiritual Survival Kit
To meet the daily challenges of life it is not enough that we have the truths of the Word in a Bible on the shelf. We must carry them within us. In this hostile environment of the cosmic battlefield, we must have a spiritual survival kit in our souls (Psa 119:11; Isa 33:6). This manual is designed to help you put such a kit together.

If you print the PDF from the website, please note that Spiritual Survival Kit is formatted for a 4"x6" book, and you will be able to print it as a "booklet." If you would like a hard copy of this book, it may be ordered through books@basictraining.org.

The Anchor of Our Soul
Is the blood of Jesus Christ all-sufficient for our salvation? The moment we add anything to the cross, we have declared that it is not. This is true whether the additional condition is placed before or after salvation. The ANCHOR OF OUR SOUL is the finished work of Christ (Heb. 6:18-20), is SURE and STEADFAST!

It is the way of the spiritual nomad.
